Striving for things too soon can often be the driving force that leads people backward rather than ahead. What do I mean by that?
Often, the Lord will speak a word to us, and immediately, we will desire too soon to arrive in that place and, due to spiritual immaturity, make poor choices, not realizing that to reach the mark, there is a long road ahead still unrecognized.
I remember close to seven years ago, when the Lord Jesus saved me from myself. He began to speak to me, revealing the things to come, and in my spiritual immaturity, I jumped the gun prematurely.
For years, and to a certain degree, it set me back by making the wrong impression by talking too much. Even though I was headed in the right direction, telling the wrong people caused a traffic jam—Not everyone is excited to see us succeed.
How many can say that God spoke a word to you and, out of immaturity, spoke out of excitement, thinking you were prepared immediately, or that you could trust someone before getting to know them outside of the public facade?
For example:
I made that mistake when telling Paula White, while preaching on Life Network for Women, what God sent me to do, and ultimately resigned when I realized who she was—a false teacher and false prophet.
The Holy Spirit gave me a direct warning for her, and I shared it lovingly with her. I have the receipts, but in return, she led a murderous campaign against me.
However, I forgave her and continue to share the love and truth of the Gospel because the Lord has revealed what’s already done unbeknownst to many.
The Lord said ‘She, and her cohorts are sabotaging your name and worse, but God is my protector and Redeemer, so there is no worry.’
Therefore, please raise your hand; you may have fumbled too. We all make mistakes and jump the gun at some point and are made to look foolish, but to admit to it, seek Jesus, learn to be quiet, and allow God’s justice to play out.
This spiritual gain is a sign of spiritual maturity. God sends us into the wilderness, like Jesus, purposely to prepare and be tested to accomplish His will for His kingdom on earth.
It’s a time of personal reflection and total reliance on God to know the Father intimately and be prepared in the art of spiritual warfare, to reveal true character, and burn off the old life habits or false beliefs, and walk unwaveringly in the anointing.
Not to mention, walking through fire burns off the stupidity, and in the meantime, the Lord is revealing snakes and thieves, the mischievous in His church masquerading as prophets.
In the meantime, remember David. Can you imagine that after receiving the word that he would be king, David, just a kid, would step directly onto the throne?
No way!
Truthfully, with that kind of thinking, David would have ended up dead. It would be years after Samuel revealed to David the commission of God over his life that David matured in character in the fields. It was a complex process, and David faced many challenges, but in the end, David was King.
1 Samuel 16
7 But the Lord told Samuel, “Don’t look at his appearance or how tall he is, because I have rejected him. God does not see as humans see. Humans look at outward appearances, but the Lord looks into the heart.”
Remember Samuel told Jesse, “Send someone to get him. We won’t continue until he gets here.”
Verse 12 says, “So Jesse sent for him. He had a healthy complexion, attractive eyes, and a handsome appearance. The Lord said, ‘Go ahead, anoint him. He is the one.’” 13 Samuel took the flask of olive oil and anointed David in the presence of his brothers. The Lord’s Spirit came over David and stayed with him from that day on. Then Samuel left for Ramah.
David worked sheepishly beforehand, and while being mocked and ridiculed by his brothers and peers, David stayed humble while shoveling the dung before many. Interestingly, Saul, the current king, was jealous of David and wanted to kill him.
David was equipped by God while serving in the fields of ridicule, and it was David’s love for YHWH that kept him safe while he comforted himself and matured in the art of warfare and leadership. The Bible says David motivated himself—I attest to that.
At the same time, David would get greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the LORD his God. (1 Samuel 30:6)
Like David, there are men and women being trained in the art of battle, overcoming lions and bears by the hand of God. Like David, we may be short, but boy, can we fight honorably!
David said moreover, “The Lord who delivered me out of the paw of the lion and out of the paw of the bear, He will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said unto David, “Go, and the Lord be with thee.” (1 Samuel 17:37)
Has God spoken a word over you, and are you in waiting? Or has YHWH dropped a directive, and instead of waiting on God, you jetted off prematurely? If so, it’s okay—nothing is wasted.
Practice the art of staying silent and serving diligently. God is on time.
Meanwhile, my Boaz found me working the fields, serving the hopeless, vulnerable, sick, addicted, and lost. I love you, Joel Beach
He provided for my needs.
Much love and truth,
